Short answer
Yes, you can use Vipps abroad: you can tap with it in shops, pay businesses in Denmark and Finland, and send money to friends across the Nordics. In Denmark and Finland the app is still called MobilePay, but it becomes Vipps on 12 January 2027. In Sweden it is called Vipps. Sending money abroad costs 4%.
Why
- Vipps' help pages confirm that you can tap with Vipps abroad.
- Online, you can pay with Vipps at all businesses in Denmark and Finland that have a direct integration with MobilePay.
- Since 2024, Norwegians have been able to send money to family and friends across the Nordics with Vipps.
Details
The MobilePay app in Denmark and Finland got the Vipps smile as its icon on 6 October 2026, and the name changes on 12 January 2027, so Vipps says to look for Vipps when paying in Copenhagen or Helsinki. Until then, look for the MobilePay logo. The app stays orange in Norway and Sweden, and the change does not affect how it works for Swedish users.
Tip
To send money to someone in Sweden, Denmark or Finland, remember that the transfer costs 4% of the amount, unlike free transfers within Norway up to NOK 5,000.
