At what age can children get Vipps?
Vipps for children under 15, limits, consent and the upgrade at 15.
Short answer
Children under 15 can use Vipps through a profile a parent creates, and at 15 they can upgrade to a full profile with their own BankID. The child needs a Norwegian mobile number and a bank account in their name, and both parents need an active Vipps profile. Both parents must agree before the child can send money.
Why
- Vipps gets information about parental responsibility automatically from the National Population Register (Folkeregisteret).
- Users under 15 can send up to NOK 25,000 in 365 days and receive up to NOK 65,000.
- From 15, Vipps requires BankID, a Norwegian mobile number, a Norwegian Visa or Mastercard and an account in a Norwegian bank.
Details
The child first downloads Vipps on their own phone. In your Vipps app you tap the profile icon, choose Vis mer and then Legg til barn, and follow the steps; the other parent gets an SMS. Parents can also let the child see the balance, pay to a Vippsnummer and pay in shops.
Tip
Have the child's mobile number and bank account number ready before you start, as Vipps asks for both.
What may differ
Foster parents and guardians who are not registered with parental responsibility must upload documentation no older than 12 months, and processing can take up to 3 working days.
