Does Vipps charge a fee, and how much can I send without paying one?
The free limit, the 1% fee and payments abroad.
Short answer
Sending money to friends with Vipps is free up to NOK 5,000 to the same person within 24 hours, and above that Vipps charges 1% of the amount. Payments to shops, clubs and other businesses are always free, whatever the amount. Sending money to another country costs 4%.
Why
- Vipps' help pages set the free limit at NOK 5,000 or less to the same person within 24 hours.
- If you send NOK 5,001 or more to the same private person within 24 hours, the 1% fee is added to the payment that takes you over NOK 5,000.
- Vipps never charges a fee when you pay or tap at a business, however much you spend.
Details
The limit counts per recipient, so two payments of NOK 3,000 to two different friends on the same day are free. The fee only applies between private people. Transfers abroad are counted separately, with their own 4% fee and their own limits of NOK 50,000 in 7 days and NOK 250,000 in 365 days.
Tip
If you need to send more than NOK 5,000 to one person, spread the payments so that no 24-hour period goes above NOK 5,000, and you avoid the fee.
Common misconception
Vipps is always free.
What actually happens
