What is Bank Norwegian, and who owns it?
Owner, products and the link to the airline.
Short answer
Bank Norwegian, founded in Norway in 2007, is now a Norwegian branch of the Swedish NOBA Bank Group and a separate company from the airline Norwegian. It offers credit cards, savings accounts and unsecured loans and says it has more than 1.5 million customers. Its credit card earns CashPoints that can be spent on Norwegian flights.
Why
- Bank Norwegian became a branch of Nordax Bank in 2022 after a merger, and Nordax Bank AB (publ) later changed its name to NOBA Bank Group AB (publ).
- Nordic Capital took NOBA private in 2018 together with co-owner Sampo, and NOBA shares have traded on Nasdaq Stockholm under the ticker NOBA since 26 September 2025.
- NOBA runs three brands: Nordax Bank, Bank Norwegian and Svensk Hypotekspension.
Details
The bank uses the Norwegian brand under licence from the airline: a 2019 agreement with Norwegian Air Shuttle gave the right to use the name and logo in Europe outside the Nordics as well, and the bank kept working with the Norwegian Reward loyalty programme. Since starting in Norway, the bank has expanded to the rest of the Nordics, Spain and Germany. Its credit card has no annual fee and up to 45 interest-free days.
Tip
Bonuses on the card come either as CashPoints for Norwegian flights or as cashback, so choose the one you will actually use.
Common misconception
Bank Norwegian is owned by the airline Norwegian.
What actually happens
The bank uses the Norwegian name under licence and works with the airline's loyalty programme, but it is a branch of the Swedish NOBA Bank Group.
