Is there an Amazon in Norway?
Amazon stores, delivery to Norway and Norwegian VAT.
Short answer
Norway has no Amazon store of its own, but the US Amazon store ships many products to Norwegian addresses through its AmazonGlobal service. Amazon's list of European stores includes Sweden, Germany and the UK, but not Norway. Delivery costs depend on the item and the address, and Norway charges VAT on all goods bought abroad.
Why
- Amazon's own overview of its stores names Sweden, Germany, the UK and eight other European countries, but no Norwegian store.
- Norway is on Amazon.com's list of AmazonGlobal export countries, and Amazon says product lines, shipping rates and fees vary with the delivery address.
- Skatteetaten says VOEC-registered shops charge Norwegian VAT at checkout on goods under NOK 3,000 per item, while for other shops you pay VAT and any duty when the goods enter Norway.
Details
When VOEC goods have been paid for at checkout, there is nothing more to pay on arrival. If VAT is not paid at checkout, it is collected when the parcel arrives, and the carrier adds a fee: in 2026 Posten charges NOK 46 for parcels worth up to NOK 500 and NOK 78 for NOK 500–3,000. Amazon itself warns that packages may be subject to the customs fees and import duties of the destination country.
Tip
Check the total at checkout: if Norwegian VAT is already included and Posten still asks for VAT, contact the shop, since the refund has to come from the shop.
What may differ
Food, vitamins, medicines, alcohol and goods with special taxes are outside the VOEC scheme, so import charges on them are always collected on arrival, whatever the value.
Common misconception
Amazon does not deliver to Norway at all.
What actually happens
Norway has no Amazon store, but Amazon.com lists Norway among its AmazonGlobal export countries, although not every product can be sent.
