Letter days, parcels, post boxes and planned changes.

Answered at: Checked at:

Short answer

Posten delivers letters every other weekday, three days one week and two the next, while parcels to the mailbox come every weekday. Letters arrive Monday, Wednesday and Friday one week and Tuesday and Thursday the next. In Oslo, Bærum, Lørenskog and Rælingen, mailbox parcels also come on Saturdays.

Why

  1. Posten and Nkom both say that Posten moved to delivering letters every other day in July 2020.
  2. Posten says addressed letters arrive three times one week and twice the next, and on a public holiday the mail comes on the next working day instead.
  3. Customers with a post office box (postboks) get mail on all working days, Monday to Friday.

Details

Posten has a lookup on its website where you enter your postcode to see which days letters and newspapers come to your mailbox. In some places unaddressed advertising is delivered on Sundays, but addressed mail arrives on weekdays. Mailbox parcels take 1 working day within Oslo, Bærum, Lørenskog and Rælingen and 2–5 working days elsewhere, depending on the postcode.

Tip

Check your own delivery days with your postcode on Posten's website before you wait for an important letter.

What may differ

This may change. In April 2025 the government said it wants to keep delivery to mailboxes but guarantee everyone letters at least one day a week, and a draft new Postal Act was out for consultation until 20 January 2026. On 15 October 2026 Posten still described delivery every other day.
