Where are post boxes in Oslo, and how often are they emptied?

Posten's map, daily emptying and posting deadlines.

Answered at: Checked at:

Short answer

Red post boxes in Oslo are shown on Posten's online map, and those at postal outlets are emptied daily, while other boxes are emptied during mail delivery. A letter posted in one of those other boxes can therefore take an extra day. For urgent mail, Posten advises using the boxes at postal outlets.

Sending a postcard from Norway a parcel box with a small red postal horn symbol and a delivery van

Why

  1. Posten's map lets you find pickup points, drop-off points, parcel lockers and red post boxes.
  2. Posten says the red post boxes at its postal outlets are emptied daily and should be used for urgent mail.
  3. Other red post boxes are emptied as part of mail distribution, so letters posted there can take a day longer.

Details

Posten refers to the same map for the posting deadlines (innleveringsfrister) at each postal outlet. Letters within Norway normally take 2–3 days, and since July 2020 addressed letters have been delivered every other weekday.

Tip

If a letter is urgent, check the posting deadline of the nearest postal outlet on the map and use the red box there.
