How do I send a parcel from Norway to another country?

Booking, customs details, price zones and the 20 kg limit.

Short answer

To send a parcel abroad, book it online with Posten, fill in the customs details in English and hand the parcel in at a drop-off point. In 2026 a 1 kg parcel booked online costs NOK 210 to Sweden, Denmark or Germany, NOK 305 to the UK and NOK 410 to the USA. Parcels can weigh up to 20 kg.

Why

  1. Posten's price list from 1 January 2026 puts Sweden, Denmark and Germany in price zone 1, the UK in zone 4 and the USA in zone 7.
  2. The price is lowest when you buy the address label on posten.no, and higher if Posten has to register the customs information for you, for example NOK 280 instead of NOK 210 for 1 kg to zone 1.
  3. Private individuals must fill in customs documentation for all types of shipments abroad, and Posten asks you to describe the contents exactly, since Gift alone is not enough.

Details

Pack and weigh the parcel, check the measurements, and enter the sender, recipient and contents in English when you book. Print the label at home, or use the QR code from your receipt at a self-service printer or show it to the staff, and take the parcel to one of Posten's drop-off points. For faster delivery, Ekspress utland reaches most central areas of Europe and North America within 2 working days.

Tip

Weigh the parcel at home and book it online before you go: in every weight class the online price is NOK 70 lower than when Posten registers the customs details for you.

What may differ

Shipments to the USA must be ordered and declared digitally, and for shipments arriving in the USA from 24 July 2026 customs duties and taxes must be prepaid. Prices to other countries depend on the price zone and weight.
