Can I send parcels from Norway to the USA?

Digital customs forms, 2026 prices and prepaid US duties.

Short answer

You can send parcels with goods from Norway to the USA again, but every shipment must be booked and declared digitally through Posten. In 2026 a parcel of up to 1 kg costs NOK 410 when booked on posten.no. For parcels arriving from 24 July 2026, the sender must prepay US duties and taxes.

Why

  1. Posten says goods can once again be sent to the USA and Puerto Rico, but all shipments must be ordered and declared digitally.
  2. On Posten's 2026 price list the USA is in price zone 7, where a parcel booked online costs NOK 410 up to 1 kg, NOK 790 up to 5 kg and NOK 2,215 up to 20 kg.
  3. Posten says that for these shipments the sender, no longer the recipient in the USA, pays import duties and fees.

Details

Customs details must be entered digitally and in English in Posten's self-service solution. Gifts under USD 100 between private persons are free of US duty, but the import clearance fee still applies. For urgent items, Posten's express service to North America costs NOK 2,083 for up to 1 kg in 2026.

Tip

Book and fill in the customs details yourself on posten.no: in 2026 this is NOK 70 cheaper per parcel than having Posten register them.

What may differ

The US clearance service and fees on Posten's price list apply to goods shipments worth USD 0–800, so ask Posten about shipments of higher value.

Common misconception

Posten no longer sends parcels to the USA.

What actually happens

Posten says goods can once again be sent to the USA, as long as each shipment is booked and declared digitally.
