Can I send a parcel to myself to collect at a Norwegian post office?
Norgespakke, pickup deadlines, ID and Poste Restante.
Short answer
You can send a parcel to yourself within Norway as a Norgespakke, with your own name and phone number, and collect it at a pickup point with ID. It is collected at a Post i Butikk, post office, parcel locker or Pakkeboks, and the deadline is usually 7 days, which you can extend free of charge to 14.
Why
- Posten's terms for Norgespakke say parcels are collected at a Post i Butikk, a post office, a parcel locker or a Pakkeboks, with a maximum of 35 kg per parcel.
- The sender's and recipient's phone numbers must be given, so that notices can be sent through the Posten app or by SMS.
- Posten accepts a foreign passport and a European identity card as ID, but not a Nordic driving licence.
Details
Norgespakke is booked only online on posten.no or in the Posten app, from NOK 76 for a small parcel under 5 kg and from NOK 140 for a parcel up to 35 kg. The larger size normally takes one to three working days. If you are in transit or staying somewhere temporarily, Posten also lets you have mail sent Poste Restante to a post office or Post i Butikk, where the collection deadline is 3 weeks.
Tip
Bring your passport when you collect, since Posten lists a foreign passport as approved ID.
What may differ
In a Pakkeboks the deadline is 4 days, which can be extended free of charge to 7, and you open the locker with the Posten app.
