How do I find something I lost on a train, bus or at an airport in Norway?
Where lost items end up after trains, buses, Flytoget and flights, and how long they are kept.
Short answer
To get back a lost item, contact the company that carried you: Entur handles things left on trains, while Oslo Airport and five other airports use MissingX. Flytoget keeps lost items at its office at Oslo Airport. The airport's own lost property office is by check-in area 1 in the departure hall, open 06:00–22:00.
Why
- Avinor keeps items forgotten at its airports for three months, and anything not collected then goes to Fretex or the police lost property office.
- Vy says Entur's lost property offices handle items lost on trains in Norway, and valuables such as passports and wallets are passed to the police within two weeks.
- Ruter stores items found on the Oslo metro, trams, city buses and boats at its lost property office at Nationaltheatret metro station.
Details
Items left on a plane are handed in to the airport's lost property office, and at Oslo Airport it can take up to 3 days before a found item is registered. Things lost on Flytoget or an express bus to the airport must be traced through that operator, not the airport. Flytoget's customer service answers by chat or on +47 23 15 90 00, Monday to Friday 08:00–18:00. For Vy buses, use Vy's contact form, and for local buses contact the bus company.
Tip
Report the loss as soon as you can and describe the item in detail: Avinor asks you to enter as much information as possible in MissingX, which makes a match more likely.
What may differ
MissingX covers Oslo, Bergen, Bodø, Tromsø, Trondheim and Stavanger airports. At other airports, contact the airport's lost property office directly. Missing or damaged checked baggage is a different matter: report it to the airline's baggage service at the airport.
