How do parcel lockers (pakkeboks) work in Norway?
Posten Pakkeboks and PostNord lockers step by step.
Short answer
Parcel lockers in Norway open with the carrier's app, so you collect a parcel from a Posten Pakkeboks with the Posten app and Bluetooth, at any time of day. Posten has lockers in 2,000 places, and PostNord has 4,000 of its own. You choose the locker as delivery method at checkout and get a message when the parcel is ready.
Why
- Posten says it has placed parcel lockers in 2,000 places in Norway, from Mandal in the south to Hammerfest in the north.
- The Posten app works as a digital key, and Posten's help page says Bluetooth must be on and you must stand close to the locker to open the door.
- PostNord says its 4,000 lockers open with Bluetooth and the PostNord Norge app, and that most of them are open around the clock.
Details
A parcel for a Posten Pakkeboks can be no larger than 50 x 44 x 59 cm, and parcels that do not fit go to the staffed pickup point instead. In the Posten app you can extend the pickup deadline to 7 days free of charge, share the parcel so someone else can collect it, return goods to an online shop and send a parcel without a label. PostNord's lockers also accept returns with a valid return label.
Tip
Turn on Bluetooth and open the app before you reach the locker, since the digital key only works when you stand right next to it.
What may differ
Parcels that are too large or need temperature control are not delivered to lockers and go to your ordinary pickup point.
