How the groups are divided: centre, neighbourhood and barber
- The City centre group brings together salons from Jernbanetorget in the east to Solli plass in the west.
- The salons in the group Near where you live are at Bislett, Grünerløkka, Frogner and Ensjø.
- The barbers are grouped by service, not by area: they are at Majorstuen, Grønland, Sandaker and Veitvet.
- Several of the salons belong to chains, and this page shows one branch of each.
The salons are grouped by area, so that you can choose a hairdresser close to work, your place of study or home. The City centre group suits you when you are in town anyway: the addresses are at Jernbanetorget, on Grensen, on Karl Johans gate and at Solli plass. Two of the salons are inside shopping centres, Byporten at Jernbanetorget and Paleet on Karl Johans gate, so you can get a haircut on the same trip as your shopping.
The group Near where you live is for those who would rather have the hairdresser in their own neighbourhood: at Bislett, Grünerløkka, Frogner or Ensjø. Several of these salons have a clear speciality, according to the card descriptions: colour, balayage and keratin treatments, hair extensions, or certification as a green salon (grønn frisør).
The barbers have a group of their own because the service is different: men's cuts, skin fades, beard trims and shaves. The barbershops are spread across the city: Majorstuen in the west, Grønland just east of the centre, Sandaker in the north and Veitvet in the Grorud valley. Ordinary hair salons cut men's hair too, and several of them list men's cuts.
This page is a selection, not a complete list. In the directory, the category Hair Salons & Haircare has more than six hundred cards, and barbers have a category of their own, Barbershops: in both you can search by name or address. More about the city is on the Oslo page, and other guides on hair and wellness are collected under Beauty and wellness.
Before you book: branch, drop-in and cancellation
- You book the appointment online: on the salon's own website or in the booking system it links to.
- At the chains, each branch has its own booking page.
- Some salons in the centre take walk-ins (drop-in) as well as appointments.
- The cards do not show prices: the price list is on the salon's website.
Most of the salons on this page take online bookings, according to their own websites (read on 5 and 6 October 2026). Booking goes through the salon's website or a booking system it links to, and you pick the treatment and the time yourself. Several of the salons belong to chains with more than one branch in the city. Each branch then has its own booking page and its own opening hours, so look at the address before you confirm the appointment.
If you want a haircut the same day, a walk-in may be the answer: some of the salons in the centre state that they take customers without an appointment. For the barbers and the neighbourhood salons the cards say nothing about walk-ins, so booking is the safer choice there.
The cancellation deadline is stated on the booking page, and one of the chains says an appointment must be cancelled at least 24 hours in advance. If you want several treatments in one visit, for example a cut and colour or a cut and beard trim, select all of them when you book, so that enough time is set aside.
Prices are not shown in the cards: the price list is on the salon's website or in the booking system. Some of the barbers list separate appointments for children and pensioners, and at the hairdressers a children's cut is mentioned in the card description when the salon offers it.
Opening hours: evenings, Saturday and Sunday
- Evening hours in the centre on weekdays: until 21:00 at Jernbanetorget and until 20:00 on Karl Johans gate.
- In the neighbourhoods, several salons stay open until 19:00, 20:00 or 21:00 on one or more evenings a week.
- On Saturday most close between 16:00 and 18:00.
- Sunday: none of the hair salons lists opening hours, but one of the barbers does.
The times here are taken from the salons' own websites (read on 5 and 6 October 2026) and from the cards in the directory. In the centre, the salon in the shopping centre at Jernbanetorget is open until 21:00 on weekdays, and the salon on Karl Johans gate until 20:00. The other city-centre salons close at 18:00 or 19:00.
In the neighbourhoods the hours vary more from day to day. According to the cards, several of the salons there stay open until 19:00, 20:00 or 21:00 on one or more evenings a week, usually midweek, and one is closed on Mondays. The barbers open at 10:00 or 11:00 and close between 18:00 and 20:00 on weekdays.
Saturday is a shorter day: most close between 16:00 and 18:00, and one of the city-centre salons takes Saturday appointments only by arrangement. Sunday is not listed as an open day by any of the hair salons. The exception is one of the barbers, which states that it is open until 16:00 on both Saturday and Sunday.
The opening hours in the cards may differ from the salon's own. The time on the salon's website is the one that applies, so look there on the day you plan to go.
