Which group suits you
This page is useful if the car is due for a service, if it only needs its periodic EU inspection (EU-kontroll), or if a scratch, a dent or damaged paint needs fixing.
| If you need | What to look at | Which group fits | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Service or repair within walking distance of the train | An address in Alexander Kiellands gate | By the station and south-west of the centre | The preferred date in the booking form: the workshop confirms the time afterwards |
| Only an EU inspection, or a condition report before buying a car | The word kontrollstasjon (inspection station) on the card | By the station and south-west of the centre | That the station in Ulefossvegen does no repairs: faults are fixed at a workshop |
| A service with a loan car, or service on a motorhome | The list of services on the workshop page | By the station and south-west of the centre | Whether the loan car is free on the day you want |
| Service and paintwork in one place | An address in Bølevegen and paintwork on the list of services | South along Bølevegen and Porsgrunnsvegen | The house number: the workshop site and the card say 79, the chain page says 34 |
| A scratch, a stone chip or parking damage | The words lakkering (paintwork) or bilskade (car damage) on the card | Paint, dents and smart repair | Saturday hours: one workshop lists 10.00 to 16.00 |
Three areas: by the station, south-west of the centre and south towards Porsgrunn
- Alexander Kiellands gate 35 is about 340 metres from the railway station and about one kilometre north of the town hall.
- Sliperivegen 19 and Ulefossvegen 20 are south-west of the centre, 1.3 to 1.4 kilometres from the town hall and about one kilometre apart.
- Bølevegen 34 and 79 are about two kilometres south-south-east of the town hall, 260 metres from each other.
- Bedriftsvegen 76, Porsgrunnsvegen 188 and Nensetbakken 22 are furthest south, 3.4 to 5.1 kilometres from the town hall.
The distances are measured in a straight line between the address points in the Kartverket address register, so the drive is longer. If you leave the car and go on by train, the workshop in Alexander Kiellands gate is the only one within walking distance of the station. The card for the workshop in Porsgrunnsvegen says that a bus runs there every quarter of an hour.
In the south the workshops lie closer together than this selection shows. The category Car repair and maintenance has 62 cards in October 2026: nine of them have an address in Bedriftsvegen, nine in Rødmyrsvingen, Rødmyrlia and Rødmyrjordet, and four in Porsgrunnsvegen. Car washing and polishing has its own category, Car wash and car care, and parts are under Car parts and accessories.
The town has its own page, Skien, and guides on other topics are under Rankings of popular places.
Who does what: chain workshop, inspection station, paint and bodywork
- EU inspection is on the pages of four places: Sliperivegen, Bølevegen 79, Porsgrunnsvegen and the inspection station in Ulefossvegen.
- The inspection station only does EU inspections and condition reports, not repairs.
- Electric and hybrid cars are on the lists of services in Sliperivegen, Bølevegen 79 and Porsgrunnsvegen.
- Nensetbakken has a body shop and a mechanical workshop at the same address.
The information comes from the websites of the workshops and from the pages a workshop chain keeps for each of its members, read on 7 October 2026. Three of the workshops here, in Sliperivegen, Bølevegen 79 and Porsgrunnsvegen, belong to the same chain, so their lists look alike: car service, electrical repairs, air-conditioning service, wheel alignment check, tyres and EU inspection up to 3,500 kilos. The extras set them apart: Sliperivegen lists tyre storage, motorhomes and a loan car during service, Porsgrunnsvegen lists car glass and trailer service, and Bølevegen 79 lists bodywork, paintwork and smart repair alongside the mechanical work.
The workshop by the station has its own list: service and maintenance, fault finding and diagnosis, replacement of timing chain and timing belt, brakes and chassis, engine and drivetrain, and air-conditioning service with the refrigerants R134a and R1234yf.
Paint and damage are spread over three addresses. The card for the paint shop at Bølevegen 34 describes painting of cars and vans, and the shop has no website. Bedriftsvegen 76 is about small damage: paintwork, stone chips and parking damage, with an estimate before the work. The body shop in Nensetbakken lists straightening and paintwork, smart repair, service, diagnosis, air conditioning, tyres and car glass.
Open from 7.30: opening hours, Saturday and three ways to book
- From 7.30: Bølevegen 79 and Porsgrunnsvegen (until 16.00) and Nensetbakken (until 15.30).
- From 8.00: Alexander Kiellands gate and Sliperivegen (until 16.00) and the inspection station in Ulefossvegen (until 16.30).
- Open longest: Bedriftsvegen 76, 8.00 to 17.00 on weekdays and 10.00 to 16.00 on Saturday.
- Online booking: four workshops. The rest have a phone number or e-mail.
The times apply Monday to Friday and come from the workshop pages or the chain page, read on 7 October 2026. Four of the places state explicitly that they are closed on Saturday and Sunday. For the paint shop at Bølevegen 34 there is only the card in the catalogue, which gives 8.00 to 15.00 on weekdays. The card for Bedriftsvegen 76 shows shorter hours than the workshop website, and the website is the one to follow.
Booking works in three ways. The workshop by the station has a form where you give the registration number, the preferred date and the service, and confirms the time after looking at its calendar; photos of the fault can be sent by e-mail. Bølevegen 79 has two buttons, one for a workshop appointment and one for EU inspection, and the chain workshops in Sliperivegen and Porsgrunnsvegen have a booking link. The inspection station in Ulefossvegen takes enquiries by phone and e-mail, Nensetbakken asks you to get in touch for an appointment, and the paint shop at Bølevegen 34 only has a phone number.
Bølevegen calls for an extra look at the house number. The workshop website and the card give number 79, while the chain page for the same workshop gives number 34, which is also the address of the paint shop. Ask where to deliver the car when you book.

How this page is made
The workshops on this page are chosen by the NorgeGuide editorial team. Payment affects neither the selection nor the order. The order within the groups is free and says nothing about quality: the editors have not tried the workshops and do not assess their work.
