Municipal agreement or fully private: the rules, and how they work out here

  • You do not need a referral to have physiotherapy costs covered.
  • National Insurance pays part only if the physiotherapist has an operating grant (driftstilskudd) from the municipality.
  • No user fee: under 18, with an exemption card (frikort) or with an approved occupational injury.
  • You get the exemption card once you have paid more than NOK 3,278 in approved user fees in 2026.

The rules are on helsenorge.no, on the page about user fees for physiotherapy, last updated on 1 August 2026. You do not need a referral, but for National Insurance to cover part of the treatment the physiotherapist must have an operating grant from the municipality. If the physiotherapist has no such agreement, you cover all the costs yourself. Clear this up before examination and treatment begin, with the physiotherapist or with the municipality.

Kristiansand municipality keeps its own list of physiotherapists with a municipal agreement, last updated on 5 October 2026. Two of the addresses on this page are on it: the institute in Gravane, with five physiotherapists in psychomotor physiotherapy, and the clinic in Skibåsen in Sørlandsparken, which the list gives with the same phone number as the card but a slightly different name and house number. The agreement belongs to the physiotherapist, not to the building.

At Kjøita 17 the municipality's list names another institute, on the third floor, not the clinic in the card: look for the right name when you book. Two clinics describe themselves as fully private (helprivat): the clinic in Markens gate on its website, and the clinic on the third floor of Rona senter in the card description. For the rest we found no information about an agreement, with the clinic or on the municipality's list.

When the clinics are open, and how to get an appointment

  • Markens gate: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 8:00 to 18:00, Tuesday and Friday 8:00 to 14:00.
  • Kjøita: 8:00 to 16:00, Wednesday until 17:00 and Friday until 15:00.
  • Rona senter, third floor: Monday to Friday 8:30 to 17:00.
  • Barstølveien in Sørlandsparken: Monday to Thursday 7:00 to 18:00, Friday until 17:00.

The hours above were read on the clinics' own websites on 7 October 2026, and none of the four lists Saturday or Sunday opening. In Markens gate the phone hours are shorter than the opening hours: 8:00 to 14:00 Monday to Thursday and 8:00 to 10:00 on Friday. The physiotherapist on the fourth floor at Rona gives a phone number, an e-mail address and Messenger, but no fixed opening hours.

The institute in Gravane has no online booking. According to its contact page (read on 6 October 2026) you apply with a paper form that is sent by post or put in the letterbox on the ground floor, even if you have a referral. The card reports high demand and a stop on new individual treatment, while the group sessions have places.

Two places state a cancellation deadline: the clinic in Barstølveien 24 hours before the appointment, the physiotherapist on the fourth floor at Rona the day before. After the deadline you pay for the whole appointment.

Three cards have only a phone number: the addresses in Henrik Wergelands gate and Tollbodgata and the address on Andøya. We found no website with opening hours for them.

Finding your way: distances, floor, entrance and the name on the door

  • At Rona two practices share one building, on the third and fourth floors.
  • In Barstølveien it is the clinic's name you see, not the physiotherapist's.
  • Skibåsen has a lift, Kjøita free parking.

The distances are straight lines between the map points. From Torvet, the main square, it is under 100 metres to Tollbodgata 23, about 300 metres to Henrik Wergelands gate 29 and just under 400 metres to Markens gate 42. Gravane is a little over 500 metres south of Torvet, by Fiskebrygga, and Kjøita just under 900 metres to the north. Rona is a good five kilometres east of Torvet, the two addresses in Sørlandsparken eight to eight and a half kilometres, and Andøya 4.4 kilometres to the south-west.

The clinic in Markens gate is on the fourth floor of a health centre building with entrances both from Markens gate, next door to the pharmacy, and from Kristian IVs gate. According to its website there is street parking in Kristian IVs gate, a car park 100 metres from the door and disabled parking close by.

Three cards carry the name of a physiotherapist. One of them works at a clinic in Barstølveien in Sørlandsparken: the clinic gives number 50 A, the card 50 B, and it is the clinic's name that appears on the website. The physiotherapist lists Norwegian, English and Danish as languages and describes himself as an authorised physiotherapist (read on 7 October 2026).

This page is a selection. The catalogue category Rehabilitation and wellness centres has 70 cards, and more health topics are under Health and medicine. The page is a guide and does not replace a doctor: in case of acute and serious illness call 113.
